Pub chain takes over restaurants

Randalls announced that they had successfully completed the deal with the Boat House Group yesterday and also said that they would be refurbishing and rebranding the St Brelade business’s upstairs restaurant, which would be renamed The Anchor Club.

And the Farm House restaurant, formerly L’Auberge du Nord, will once again become a Randalls-managed business. However, the Boat House Group will continue to own and run its La Marquanderie-based Tree House restaurant.

Gavin Reid, managing director of Randalls, said that the deal would bring the number of its outlets to 49.

‘I am immensely proud and delighted to announce that Randalls have finally transacted to buy The Boat House in St Aubin, and also as part of the deal return The Farm House to our group of managed houses,’ he said. ‘We have some incredible plans to bring The Boat House back to its former glory, commencing with a major refurbishment of the first-floor restaurant starting in November.

‘It will reopen in December as one of Jersey’s finest restaurants, suitably named The Anchor Club.’

Randalls first announced the deal in February. However, it was delayed by CICRA over fears that it could lead to ‘a substantial loss of competition’ and that it warranted further investigation.

A spokesman for CICRA released a statement yesterday, explaining why the deal took a number of months to be approved.

‘CICRA’s job under the law is to make sure that mergers do not harm competition, consumers or the economy of Jersey,’ he said.

‘In this case, a detailed review was needed to assess the impact of the merger on the communities The Boat House and The Farm House serve.

‘CICRA would like to thank both parties for their co-operation and professionalism, which enabled the review to be completed well within the timescales.’
