Rolling out the barrels for the Beer and Cider Festival

Rolling out the barrels for the Beer and Cider Festival

The event, which is being organised by EC Events and replaces the Camra beer festival which has been discontinued, is due to start today at 3 pm in the People’s Park. The organisers want to broaden the appeal of the festival by extending the range of drinks available.

As well as the traditional ales and ciders which have been offered in the past, festival organisers are now offering craft beers and putting on a gin bar, as well as an extended line-up of musical acts throughout the three days.

Julie Settle, of EC Events, said: ‘I’m really excited about how the beer fest is shaping up this year and thankfully the weather forecast is looking brilliant as well plus the line-up of music we have got is going to be great fun. It’s a completely different layout this year which we hope will make it really welcoming and easy for people to use.’

EC Events are working with Liberation Brewery, which will be sourcing more than 50 ales and beers for the event. Thatchers will supply the cider, including its Haze, Gold and Stans range, and Jersey Royal Gin, produced from Jersey Royal potatoes by La Mare Wine Estate, will be on sale accompanied by Fever-Tree tonic waters. Wine will also be available and La Robeline Cider and Sausages will have a stand. Music is being provided by a number of local artists as well as UK rock ’n’ roll act The Jetsons.

The event is due to run between 3 pm and 10.30 pm today, from 12 pm until 10.30 pm tomorrow and between 12 pm and 9.30 pm on Sunday.

For £10 customers will receive a free drink of their choice. Once inside tokens worth £2.50 will be available to buy and exchange for drinks, which will all cost £5, or £2.50 for a half. Corporate VIP packages are available today from noon to 3 pm giving ticketholders the opportunity to try the beers before everyone else. More information can also be found at beerfestjersey.com.
