Fishing regulations on the agenda as States reconvene

Several propositions are tabled for debate which would restrict fishing in certain areas, such as the Ecréhous, as well as increasing the minimum size limits for crawfish catches around the Island.

Members could also agree to allow limited-liability companies to set up in Jersey.

LLCs are where the members of the company are not personally liable for the company’s debts or liabilities and combine the limited liability protection of a company with the flexibility and privacy of a partnership.

Meanwhile, Deputy Gregory Guida has called on politicians to consider the cost implications to the public of their propositions more carefully before lodging them with the States Assembly. At present, Members have to outline the cost to the States of any proposition in terms of finance and manpower.

Deputy Guida believes that should be extended to include the effect on ordinary Islanders.

A total of 22 written and 21 oral questions have been lodged for question time.

Among the oral questions, Deputy Tadier is due to ask Attorney General Robert MacRae about the legal situation regarding assisted dying and Islanders travelling to another country to end their lives.

Chief Minister John Le Fondré and Economic Development Minister Lyndon Farnham are due to face questions without notice.
