Eye surgery for man shot at close range

The States police are looking for the two teenagers responsible for the attack, which took place in the car park just off the model aircraft field at Les Landes at around 10 pm on Monday.

The force is appealing for any information about what it has described as a ‘very serious’ incident, which left the victim requiring surgery.

A police statement says: ‘An 18-year-old man was parked in the car park with his friends and they were standing outside of their cars watching the sunset.

‘Two other males further away appeared to be messing about with a BB gun and a couple of pellets were fired in the direction of the 18-year-old’s car.

‘Because of this, he has gotten in his car, a grey Suzuki Swift, and driven over to the two males with the BB gun. As he approaches them, the man with the BB gun has pointed the gun through the open driver-side window and shot the 18-year-old in the face at very short range causing a serious injury.

‘The two men then ran off in the direction of the Batterie Moltke car park.’

The two people responsible for the attack are described as being between 16 and 18 years old and are both said to be ‘tall and skinny’.

The person holding the BB gun was wearing a red Adidas tracksuit top with a white stripe down the arm, dark jeans and a white bucket hat. The other individual was wearing a white tracksuit top.

‘This is a very serious incident and police would like to hear from anyone with any information,’ the police statement says.

‘The 18-year-old man sustained a serious injury to his right eye that requires surgery, as the pellet is actually lodged in the back of his eye.’

Anyone with any information has been asked to contact the police on 612612, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
