Readers: Opt-in to stay informed

The ‘opt-in’ emails will be sent to people who are JEP Extra and JEP Digital subscribers, as well as those who have entered competitions or interacted with the JEP in a host of other ways.

They will ask readers to say that they wish to continue receiving emails from the newspaper.

JEP editor Andy Sibcy explained that the newspaper, in common with businesses across the European Union, had to make sure that it complied with the EU General Data Protection Regulation.

He said: ‘At a time when so many people are rightly concerned about cyber-security and the protection of their data, the new regulations will help ensure that personal information is handled properly.

‘This is an opportunity for me to reassure readers that the email many will receive next week is from the newspaper.’

Mr Sibcy added: ‘In essence, the regulation means that you have to tell us that you still want to receive e-notifications from the JEP.

‘Opting in only takes a minute. You will simply be asked to click on the opt-in button and enter your name and email address.

‘If you do not currently receive the JEP’s daily news email alert and would like to, please log on to jerseyeveningpost.com and enter your email next to the ‘Subscribe to our daily newsletter’ banner below the first paragraph of every news story.’

All businesses need to be compliant with the new GDPR rules by 25 May.
