Motorist who caused death of Jerseyman to avoid jail

Rebecca Miller was moving home on 30 January last year when the double mattress was dislodged from her Peugeot 2008 SUV on the A229 dual carriageway in Kent.

The mattress landed in path of retired security guard Clive Mauger’s Peugeot 206, according to Kentonline.

The 69-year-old, who moved from Jersey to the UK many years ago, then careered off the road and his car hit a tree.

He died instantly.

During a hearing at Maidstone Crown Court, Miller (39) pleaded guilty to causing death by careless driving.

Judge Julian Smith adjourned sentencing until Wednesday, and told Miller that any jail sentence would be suspended.
