Call for more foster carers

Fostering and Adoption Jersey is aiming to recruit ten new foster families in 2018 in order to meet local demand.

It says it needs more foster carers from all walks of life – married or single people, mixed or same-sex couples, as well as those from different cultural and religious backgrounds.

Emmy Lindsey, the manager of Fostering and Adoption Jersey, said: ‘We are very fortunate in Jersey to have many wonderful foster carers, but there is still a real need for more people to come forward. We want to be able to offer the right placement for all children who come into our care.’

For more information, the team will be at the Jersey Library on Saturday 13 and Wednesday 17 January from 10 am until 2.30 pm.

As of July there were 29 registered foster families and 15 registered connected carer families – a carer family that is already a
friend or relative of the looked-after child.

In October, a new charter aimed at recognising and celebrating the work of local foster carers was launched.

The charter was developed by the Foster Carers Association in consultation with Children’s Services, and aims to recognise the ‘excellent care, support and
commitment shown by foster and kinship carers’ and the invaluable role they play in the lives of Jersey’s looked-after children and young people.
