Girl (9) left shaken after knife incident at Maufant

The young girl’s mother said her daughter was ‘scared and shaken’ after one 14-year-old allegedly threatened her with what she described as a ‘Stanley knife’ during the incident on the Maufant Village estate in St Martin last week.

States police officers were called and two 14-year-old boys were apprehended. One was given words of advice while another was referred to a parish hall inquiry.

At parish hall inquiries the Centenier has the power to impose a fine of up to £200, issue a written caution or words of advice, or charge and bail a suspect ahead of a court hearing.

The JEP understands that the children were involved in a confrontation and words were exchanged on both sides. It is also alleged that the children threw stones at each other.

The mother, who has asked not to be named, said: ‘The boys were coming through the estate. They had been somewhere nearby, and were playing music loud through a Bluetooth speaker. Some children who my girl was with told them to turn the music down and apparently some stones were thrown.

‘One of the boys then went into his pocket and pulled a Stanley knife out and said something like, “I am going to Stanley you”. My girl told the police that she was scared and shaken.

‘The police came straight away and some went out looking for the boys.’

The States police confirmed the incident involved a Swiss Army knife.
