Mentoring scheme appeals to firms to listen to youth

Charlotte Valeur, who set up U25 Mentoring, says the initiative is vital in ensuring that businesses connect with young people.

A number of business leaders, as well as Home Affairs Minister Kristina Moore, have signed up to the scheme, which launched this month, but Ms Valeur hopes more companies will take up the opportunity.

Ms Valeur, who is also the founder of Board Apprentice, which aims to increase diversity on boards, said: ‘Companies are losing out because they don’t get what is going on in the current climate. So many companies are dangerously out of touch with the younger generation.

‘We desperately need young people to stay in the Island. We can’t afford to lose our young people and this mentoring scheme will help.

‘A lot of young people are complaining that they are not getting connections in business and they want to be involved at a higher level.

‘Everyone who takes part in this scheme will go away with something positive and the leaders will look like progressive leaders.’ For more information and to sign up to the scheme visit u25mentoring.com.
