Walk this way… La Collette area to put on a green face

As the site becomes filled with ash from the incinerator, the newly created mounds will be topped with greenery and made partly accessible to the public, if a planning application lodged by the Infrastructure Department is given the go-ahead.

Under long-term plans for the area, the department hopes to add greenery to the southern and eastern slopes at the site, providing what an engineering report included in the plans calls ‘environmental benefits including landscape and visual-impact benefits’.

The report adds: ‘The landform as proposed has been carefully designed to reflect the form and character of existing natural headlands along the southern coast.’

Under the plans, certain areas will also eventually be made available for public use.
