It has been reported that a Royal Navy bomb disposal unit is on the scene and there is 500-metre exclusion zone around the suspicious device – which was found during dredging work – preventing cross-Channel ferries from entering and leaving the ferry port until the bomb has been dragged out to sea and safely detonated.

Speaking to the JEP, Paul King, a passenger on board the Condor Clipper ferry, said: ‘We are being given free tea and coffee and all passengers are well on board the clipper at this time. We have been told we may go into the port at around midday.’
