During States question time, Deputy Richard Renouf, who is the chairman of the Health and Social Security Panel, said that he had been ‘alarmed’ by the number of people on low wages in Jersey following the publication of last year’s Household Distribution Survey.

Last week the panel published a report called ‘Living on a Low Income’ which follows an investigation into living standards among poorer Islanders.

Deputy Renouf said that the panel had been ‘saddened by the evidence of hardship in the Island’ while putting together the report, including the large numbers of working people who were having to use food banks.
