Harbourmaster Phil Buckley yesterday condemned the actions of the caller, which he said were particularly ill-judged in the light of the tragic death of 31-year-old Joy Godfray, who was swept into the sea at Green Island nearly two weeks ago.
On Tuesday afternoon the St Catherine’s lifeboat, the Fire and Rescue Service, the Coastguard and civilians on board private vessels searched the sea around Bouley Bay following a 999 call.
The caller, described as a ‘young girl’, claimed that her friend had been swept out to sea.
Some online commentators labelled the actions of the caller ‘disgusting’, while one called for the Coastguard to release the phone conversation in an effort to identify the caller.
