Opinion divided in St Mary over new dog shelter

The JSPCA wants to redevelop an old dairy unit at La Pepinière Farm on Rue des Touettes into a shelter to house approximately 80 homeless and boarding dogs.

The charity, which has been looking for a second site for 30 years, said expansion at its current home in St Saviour’s Road was not an option because of the modern needs of animal welfare and the current urbanisation of the surrounding area for housing.

It said the kennels, which would cost about £5 million, would be soundproofed to limit the amount of noise to below the level expected in a rural area.
