Public sector workers vote for industrial action soon

Unite the union balloted staff who work within the department earlier this year and more than 80 per cent of those that took part voted in favour of industrial action falling short of a strike, according to results released on Monday morning.

The ballot came after the Infrastructure Department – formerly Transport and Technical Services – told its staff that jobs may be at risk during a series of meetings at the end of last year after the States approved the Medium Term Financial Plan, which outlined £70 million in staff savings needed to help plug a predicted £145 million financial shortfall by 2019.
