The Durrells, a six-part drama set in 1935 based upon the conservationist and writer’s trilogy of Corfu memoirs, will air on ITV for the first time this Sunday at 8 pm.
And with the series expected to be viewed by millions of people across the UK, Keith Beecham, the chief executive of Visit Jersey, says it could generate a ‘huge’ rise in interest from holidaymakers keen to visit Durrell Wildlife – the park founded by Mr Durrell in 1959.
On the back of the programme, which focuses on Mr Durrell, his mother and his siblings during their move to Corfu – the island where his passion for animals and the natural world is believed to have been nurtured – Visit Jersey and Durrell are due to launch a social media campaign.
