Islandwide neighbourhood watch scheme on the way?

Inspector Andy Bisson, head of the States police’s community policing team, said that they were looking at bringing informal schemes that are already in place in certain parishes under one banner to enhance the police’s work in the community.

He said that Islanders were extremely fortunate to live in a community of low crime but added that the neighbourhood watch scheme would enable officers and other agencies to iron out anti-social behaviour that they would not be able to focus on in other jurisdictions.

Last year a total of 3,080 crimes were reported to the police – the lowest annual figure in the Island since 1981, when modern records began.
