Competition watchdog needs more support, says minister

During States question time on Tuesday, Senator Ozouf was asked by Deputy Carolyn Labey whether he had confidence in the work of the Channel Islands Competition and Regulatory Authority (CICRA) and its reports, in particular its recent work relating to the fuel farm at La Collette.

Fuel suppliers have criticised the States for not putting the lease of the fuel farm, which expired this month, out to tender, saying that competition had been stifled and the move could lead to higher fuel costs.

In response to Deputy Labey’s question, Senator Ozouf, who has ministerial responsibility for competition, said that regulators such as CICRA need ‘a clear context’ to operate in.
