Paper plane gives way to an inter-island boat

The papers are due to be printed in Jersey starting later this year as part of a new venture by KP Services (Jersey), which was formed by Kodak Ltd and Jersey Evening Post publishers the Guiton Group.

Some of those national editions will be shipped to Guernsey by Iris Freight aboard Channel Chieftain V, an aluminium-hulled catamaran with two new 500 hp engines which is currently undergoing a major refit in Portland, Dorset.

It is hoped that the new service, which is due to replace the air delivery of newspapers, will mean more reliability for Guernsey readers.

The operation will also employ six people from Jersey and local relief skippers from the Island, and contingency plans include keeping spare engines for the boat in both islands.
