In a move announced in the early hours of Monday, the majority of rank drivers refused to take any fares until 1.45 pm today to show their anger at planned reforms which they claim will destroy their livelihoods.

And at the end of the strike they were due to drive in a convoy around town with banners in their car windows in a public show of discontent.

Speaking this morning, Transport Minister Eddie Noel said that he was disappointed with the drivers – and said he only found out about the strike through the media.

And the strike was heavily criticised by Assistant Chief Minister Philip Ozouf, who took to Twitter to condemn the action.
