Visit Jersey, which took over from Jersey Tourism last year, tapped into the hashtag #corrielive which was trending on Twitter on Wednesday during a live broadcast of the soap that attracted nearly 8.5 million viewers.
In the show, popular characters Andrea Beckett, played by Hayley Tammaddon, and Lloyd Mulaney, played by Craig Charles, left the cobbles of Weatherfield to start a new life in Jersey.
The Island has been mentioned several times in previous episodes.
Marketing staff from Visit Jersey used the Island’s exposure on the soap to promote their latest campaign – Escape To Jersey – that allows potential visitors to create an interactive video of the Island based on their holiday preferences.
The tweet read: ‘#Corrielive fans – experience #JerseyCI for yourselves! Create a personalised break on escapetojersey.com.’
Adam Caerlewy-Smith, the head of marketing at Visit Jersey, said that early figures show the website had a small increase in traffic and added that the exposure for the Island on the soap was excellent news.
‘If it gets people thinking about and talking about Jersey then that’s always a good thing,’ he said.
He added that his team had also tweeted the two actors on the social networking site and their post had been re-tweeted by Miss Tammaddon who has more than 115,000 followers.
‘As a result we are exposed to a whole new audience,’ he added.
Speaking about the Escape To Jersey campaign in general Mr Caerlewy-Smith said it had been a success so far and tourism in general was looking up in the Island.
He said: ‘We have seen a six per cent increase in visitors this year.
‘The campaign has been a big success and we have had 80,000 new and unique users to the site but we are still collating the figures on how many actually made videos.’
