A SMALL band of Islanders this morning braved wet and windy conditions to take part in the annual Doreen Hennessy Good Friday Walk.
The sponsored walk, from West Park to St Aubin and back, raises money for Jersey Hospice Care.
Participants are encouraged to wear Easter themed costumes, but organiser Linzi Duckworth said the clothing of choice this year was wellies.
However, she praised the commitment and spirit of walkers who turn up annually to support the event.
‘They’re a loyal bunch,’ she said.
‘We seem to get the same people walking year after year.’
She also thanked participants who had still handed in sponsorship money raised even if they did not walk on the day.
The walk was started 16 years ago by Doreen Hennessy to raise funds for an MRI scanner at Jersey’s General Hospital, with Jersey Hospice later becoming the charity of choice.
Under-12s taking part in the event are treated to a free Easter egg.

IN March 2007, the founder of the annual Easter walk won the annual Woman in the Community award.
Doreen Hennessy, of St Lawrence, was named as that year’s winner on International Women’s Day, in recognition of her charity fundraising.
Mrs Hennessy began her solo fundraising career after reading about the need for a local MRI scanner at the Hospital.
She worked alone to set up a sponsored walk in 1997, which has evolved into the annual Easter event, which by 2007 had already raised over £100,000 for Jersey Hospice.
She has since retired and the event is run by other fundraisers.
