CHRISTMAS could come with extra magic this year for up-and-coming local theatrical talent, with a chance to appear in the Island’s first professional pantomime.
Jersey Opera House says it is looking for a range of talent for its production of Jack and the Beanstalk, with applications now open for local backstage crew, young performers, and professional performers.
The show is due to run from Friday 18 December to Sunday 3 January and has been billed by the theatre as the start of “a new festive tradition in Jersey”.
Audiences have been told they would be treated to “a spectacular, family-friendly show filled with music, comedy, and theatrical magic”.
Announcing the show, Jersey Opera House chief executive Sebastian Warrack said the pantomime was “incredibly exciting and marks another important step in our future”, and would create “meaningful professional opportunities for local performers”.
A UK company, Evolution Productions – a five-time winner of the Pantomime of the Year at the UK Pantomime Awards – is taking the lead on the production.
Paul Hendy, writer and producer at Evolution Productions, said he was “absolutely thrilled” to work with the Jersey Opera House team.
For young people in particular, organisers said taking part would be a chance to work on a large-scale professional production, performing alongside experienced colleagues and gaining “invaluable” experience on stage.
Young performers can apply for the Juvenile Dance Ensemble if they will be aged between nine and 14 on 3 January 2027 and are under 5 ft tall. Auditions take place on Monday 15 June from 4.30pm at the Opera House.
Full details, including a registration form, are available on the Jersey Opera House website at jerseyoperahouse.co.uk/events/jack-and-the-beanstalk.
