  • Thai police question three migrant workers

THAI police have questioned three male migrant workers from Burma in relation to the murders of a Jerseyman and a female British tourist according to the latest reports from the country.

Local authorities have said that the men are in police custody for investigation.

The news comes as the bodies of 24-year-old Islander David Miller and 23-year-old Hannah Witheridge from Great Yarmouth were due to arrive in Bangkok for forensic testing. A picture taken from CCTV footage allegedly shows the pair leaving a bar while holding hands.

‘Three male Myanmar migrant workers are under police detention for investigation,’ southern regional police commander Panya Maman said.

Messages of condolence flooded David William Miller’s Facebook page following news of the former Victoria College student’s death.

In what is thought to have been a double murder on the picturesque Sairee Beach on the small island of Koh Tao, Mr Miller’s body was found near to the second victim – Miss Witheridge (23) from Great Yarmouth.

The pair, who are believed to have met at the weekend, were discovered in the early hours of Monday morning by migrant workers from neighbouring Burma amid scenes that have shocked the Thai island’s small diving community.

Both Mr Miller and Miss Witheridge were found semi-naked with severe head injuries. A bloodied hoe was found nearby. It is also suspected that Miss Witheridge had been raped in the attack.

Police later released CCTV stills of a migrant worker they are looking for in connection with the killings.

As reports of the tragedy emerged, Islanders and friends spoke of the loss of a ‘one of a kind’ young man who was loved by many.

In one of the most touching messages, friend of Mr Miller Jessy Howorth wrote: ‘My best friend and the love of my life. We were meant to have so much more time together but I’ll continue loving you everyday forever x.’
