New public toilets and offices for Conway Street

Two buildings opposite Lloyds Bank have been demolished and St Helier has now embarked on a £928,000 project to provide new toilets and small kiosk on the ground floor, with two floors of offices for start-up companies above.

Previously the public toilets, which were split over two floors, had become run down after repeatedly being vandalised. The new facilities will be built on the ground floor where more durable equipment will be used to prevent damage.

The new development, designed by Barnes Collie Fischer Architects, will be called La Blantchette, which in Jèrriais refers to the sand dunes that once existed in the area.
