Andrew Wood (33) is one of eight people from Jersey to have received a transplant so far in 2013.
Nine others are still waiting and a number of people have died in Jersey in the last five years before a match could be found.
Mr Wood received his new kidney from a deceased donor in the UK in February and has since got married and started his own business.
He has also been able to do more with his seven-year-old daughter, including going swimming – an activity that was banned when he was receiving dialysis before the transplant.
