Last year the Freedom Church bought the Odeon cinema building in Bath Street with the intention of turning it into a multi-purpose community centre.
Plans for the first phase of the development will be unveiled at a barbecue lunch today before being officially launched in 2014.
Phase one will offer early access to the building for use by the community, as well as an opportunity to use the building while fuller refurbishment takes place.
Freedom Church Pastor Tim Bond said: ‘While phase one will not be the finished article, we want to make this facility work for us and the community.
‘We are using the resources we have available to us to make full use of the ground-floor area for the next few years.’
The free barbecue lunch at which the phase one plans will be unveiled takes place between 12 noon and 3 pm todayat the Freedom Centre.
