Deputy Patrick Ryan said that a ministerial group set up to examine and analyse Jersey’s highly selective structure was considering commissioning the independent review.

The ministerial group, which includes Deputy Ryan and four other ministers, was appointed to look at Education after responses to a public consultation on the future of Jersey’s system were published in March.

A number of issues were raised by Islanders including grants to fee-paying schools, the lack of free nursery education and the 14+ transfer to Hautlieu School.

Deputy Ryan, who was speaking at an Education and Home Affairs Scrutiny hearing, said that the ministers would have to draw their own conclusions before authorising an external assessment.
