Senator Routier was invited to the beginning of the competition as part of a two-day conference, which starts today, on new technologies and how they can help people with disabilities.
The ceremony drew on the theme of enlightenment and today marks the start of 11 days of sporting competition involving 4,200 people from 164 countries.
Speaking from London this morning Senator Routier said: ‘The opening ceremony was fantastic, very moving and inspirational. It helps to change public perception of those with disabilities.’
