Infrastructure will not cope with more people

From Dick Turpin.
IT would appear that immigration is going to be a popular subject on many manifestos with suggestions on how it can be handled.
Is it just me but isn’t Jersey already saturated? Over the past 25 years 25,000 plus foreigners have come to our shores. Where else in the world can you hop off a boat, find a bed with a friend or long-lost cousin and the following day wander up to social and apply for a no questions asked, no date of arrival proved, social security card? A card that entitles you to work, seek housing, free medical care, schooling, and social benefits, and there is nothing to stop a person giving a false name.
In my time in the construction industry cards were handed in stamped with the names of G Best, R Moore, W Wright and many more footballers looking for a change of job. It was laughable to say the least. The real sadness is the fact that politicians wrongly believe, in my view, that immigration will improve the economy. Unfortunately we do not have the infrastructure to cope. Jersey doesn’t have the schools, the jobs, a large enough hospital or room for more cars.
Enough is enough. Essentially employed, yes, but within reason, anybody else should be blocked. Forget the rubbish about the Island commitments to the UK free travel area and the EU common travel area – just revoke the commitment.
