JERSEY Tourism’s latest £1 million TV advert promoting outdoor life features lifeguards patrolling the Island’s beaches – despite news that parts of the service could be scrapped this summer.

The advert, voiced by Jersey singer Nerina Pallot who gave her time for free, was first aired on Sky News this morning and is based on the slogan: ‘Jersey – The warmest place in the British Isles.’

It shows people surfing, kayaking, and kite-surfing, children playing, horse riders galloping across the beach, all bathed in glorious sunshine.

But it is the white lifeguard van racing across the sand that could prove embarrassing for the States, at a time when they are being criticised for looking to make cutbacks to the beach lifeguard service by possibly employing the RNLI or removing cover at some beaches, to reduce the cost of the service from £250,000 to around £170,000.
