Ben’s world hopes sunk

The longboard specialist, who was crowned European champion representing Jersey last year and has finished second and third at these Games in previous years, had won through the opening two rounds of the Punta Hermosa-based competition in Lima.

Representing Great Britain, he finished second to Australia’s Harley Ingleby (16.67) on day one after scoring 9.03 in the testing Peruvian surf and progressed through round two in second place, scoring 10.77 to finish behind French rival Antoine Delpero on 13.17.

However, in a tough third round draw, with only the top two to go through, Skinner placed third by just 0.5 points, losing out once again to former world champion Ingleby who scored 12.70.
