The 31-year-old, representing England, sank to her knees and screamed with joy before racing over to her coaches Kenneth Jonassen and Pete Jeffrey after clinching the match 21-18, 21-16.
It was a deserved win for the former Beaulieu Convent pupil who had been on the losing end of an identical bronze medal playoff with Egelstaff (née Hughes) when representing Jersey at the last Games in 2006.
