U18 Euro surf title for Josh

The 17-year-old won the under-18 title in Viana, Portugal, scoring a magnificent 6.33 on his fifth wave, the top score of the round, to win with a combined effort of 10.83. He finished ahead of England’s Izaak Lawton with 9.54, as Frenchman Lucien Leroy took third on 9.47, and Alberto Fernandez of Portugal fourth with 8.76.

The trainee electrician had to go the long way round to make the final after finishing third in the preliminary final which sent him into a deciding repercharge.

Competing for the CI team, made up solely of Jersey surfers, he won having only recorded three waves, opening with 5.33 then 4.10 and finishing with 5.90, for a combined total of 11.23 (his top two scores) which guaranteed him a final-spot.
