Ben’s penalty leaves Joshua as CI’s final hope

It was an unfortunate finish for U14 Ben Bates as he went out of the repercharge rounds following an interference penalty.

The setback came as Bates tried to catch a wave at the same time as another competitor and was handed a penalty. This meant that despite twisting and turning his way on the waves with rides that scored 4.17 and 4.13 his overall score reduced from 8.30 to 6.24.

He therefore finished third behind Italian Brando Pacitto on 7.36 and the impressive 13.16 from Frenchman Aldric God.

It was also the end for U16 Joshua Evans as after narrowly clinching victory in the third round repercharge scoring 6.74, with just 0.24 separating the top three, a 6.47 in round four put him third and ended his hopes of progressing.

Joshua Le Marquand is the final CI surfer left as he continues his U18 longboard title quest today.
