UK airports and many in Europe will also remain closed leaving air passengers facing another day of misery and frustration.

The announcement of the closure of the airspace over England, Wales and Scotland was made at 4.15 am as it became clear that the plume of volcanic dust from Iceland remained over the country.

Jersey Airport announced that they would remain closed today for all flights, including inter-island flights, shortly after 10 am.
