On seeing a new site where three homes are due to be built, Deputy Paul Le Claire believes that the current drive on restricting building in the countryside will have a negative effect in town.

The former Senator was reacting to plans to build on the site of the former Eagle Tavern pub, in Lemprière Street. He said the plot of land where three properties are to be built were ‘ridiculously small’.

Regal Developments received permission to demolish the pub to build two two-bedroom and one three-bedroom town houses with roof terraces in July by the Planning applications panel.

Deputy Le Claire, who sits on the panel, said he refused to support the plans at the time but they were passed by a majority.
