Rachelle Flambard, from De Mond Gymnastics Academy, is the only youngster from Jersey to compete at the Elite Grade level – which is the standard for future Olympians.
Qualifying for this weekend’s final in Birmingham means that Flambard, who is also part of the South Regional Team and competes at level four, is among the top 50 or so British gymnasts born in the year 2000, and her final placing at the event will be her national rating.
Elite Grades are extremely difficult and are only achievable for the most talented and committed athletes, and according to coach Tory Chase De Mond, Flambard has a promising future in gymnastics if she has the right facilities to train.
