GUERNSEY’S swimmers were in seventh heaven on Saturday.

For the seventh year running, the Sarnian team got the better of their Jersey KPMG counterparts in the annual inter-insular for the Governors’ Cup. The Sarnians picked up 245 points in the Beau Sejour pool, while Jersey managed 173.

Jersey coach Nathan Jégou was in a reflective mood after the defeat. It was to be expected, to be fair,’ he said. ‘We had some good swims but we’re slightly under strength. But it’s no excuse. We’ve not won it in a while, but we’re going to keep trying.’

There were two notable Jersey successes, however. Kerrie Smith (pictured) set a new Jersey record in the individual events. She swam 1.07.48 in the 14/15 100m backstroke. And Jersey created new best times in the girls’ 14/15 200m freestyle and the girls’ 14/15 200m medley relays.
