MINISTERS face a fight over a nomination to the Waterfront Enterprise Board after a candidate was apparently ruled out because he had criticised the board in the States.
Grouville Constable Dan Murphy says that he has been told that WEB members threatened to resign if he was nominated to the board – and that Chief Minister Frank Walker was forced to put up Assistant Education Minister Ben Fox as a ‘safe option’. The two States directors of WEB have denied threatening to resign, and Senator Walker – who is said to have passed on the message – says that he does not recall the conversation.
But the Senator said that WEB had expressed concerns because Mr Murphy has criticised them in the past. It is understood that the board members were asked to vote on the two candidates – Mr Murphy and Deputy Fox – and that they backed the Deputy by three votes to two. But Mr Murphy has been nominated as an alternative candidate by Health Minister Ben Shenton, so Members will be able to vote on which one they want on the board.
