THE Jersey contingent at the national smallbore rifle meeting at Bisley had one of their most successful championships of recent years, with Paul Vibert returning with a trophy.

The championship is competed in five classes, X being for the élite 150 shooters, progressing through to A, B C and then D class.

Vibert, pictured, who could only shoot in the weekend aggregate, won the Joe Blackburn Trophy and the winner’s medal for the Class D weekend aggregate, having also led the field in a number of extra events only to be pipped at the post.

Vibert was shooting in his first Bisley championship, along with Matt Beddoe, Marcus Bisson, Richard Fountainne and Nick Le Masurier. The wind conditions were the worst since 1997, but the Jersey shooters’ experience at Crabbé stood them in good stead, with several achieving excellent scores.
