ONE of the most successful junior tennis tournaments held in the Channel Islands was completed on Saturday at the Caesarean Club in Grands Vaux – with Jersey players taking home a fair bit of the silverware.
Kirsten McArthur (pictured) was a double champion, winning both the U16 and U18 singles, while fellow Islanders Scot Clayton (U14) and Stuart Parker (U11) also triumphed. Eleanor Johnson won the 8 years and under crown, with Alexander Perry doing the same in the 9 and under.
In the boys’ events there were wins for Jake Evans in the 9 and under, while Guernsey’s Grent Oldfield won the 8 years and under.
Just under 200 entries were received for the BNP Paribas Jersey Junior Open, including 88 from across the UK, representing 26 counties. The event has doubled in size from two years ago and there is little doubt it will become bigger still as its reputation grows. Great news for tourism as many competitors were accompanied by their families.
