EIGHT swimmers from AIB Tigers will be competing at national level at Ponds Forge, Sheffield, over the next week.
Ready and waiting to start in the national age group championships tomorrow are Grace Le Couilliard and Katy Glendening. They travelled to Yorkshire yesterday, with head coach Christina Bblampied, to soak up the atmosphere and both will be eager to test their mettle against the nation’s finest youngsters. Le Couilliard goes in her first nationals at 200m backstroke, while JCG student Glendening, who swam the 800m last year, this time tackles the 1,500 freestyle.
At the conculsion of the age groups, the National Youth Championships start on Tuesday, with Tigers performance coach Nathan Jegou taking charge of six swimmers.
Four girls will compete – Ebony Jacklin, who qualified for her first nationals in the 50 and 100m free; Charlotte Manning, having missed out through injury last year, will go in the 200m breast-stroke; Kerrie Smith makes her national bow in the 100 and 200 backstroke; and Emma Glendening has seven events in freestyle and back.
The Gallichan brothers have busy programmes, with Tom making backstroke and distance freestyle his main priority, while JJ goes freestyle at 100, 200, 400 and 800m.
