From R McCredie.

FOR the sake of our future generations and the effect it will have on the Island, I pray that Jersey is never coerced into becoming a member of the loathsome European Union.

The rules regarding the Treaty of Lisbon categorically state that the failure of any one member country to ratify the treaty means the treaty is finished, dead in the water.

Not a bit of it. Ireland, the only country compelled to vote, returned a resounding NO. The only thing that died was democracy. The family of bureaucrats in Brussels will carry on and the probable outcome is the isolation of Ireland.

This treaty was signed by 27 countries, none of whom understood the 300-odd page document – unbelievable! That, of course, is the whole idea: once signed, it will be interpreted any way the EU desires.

Breaking their own rules means nothing to them. These unelected and unsackable bureaucrats will ruthlessly press on until they achieve their ultimate goal: a European superstate. The consequence of this will be overall control of everything and identities, like democracy, will vanish.

It is all about control. Opposition will be swiftly dealt with. The level of corruption, nepotism and treachery within the EU is on such a scale that it would frighten The Sopranos.

Neil Kinnock (and family), Chris Patton and Peter Mandelson are all British rejects subsequently recruited by the ‘fourth Reich’ in Brussels and placed in fireproof jobs. God help us!

Considering the wholly repulsive existence of the EU, I did stop for a moment to examine my sometimes severe criticism of our government. It was a fleeting moment, however. I t soon passed.
