Sandpiper CI Ltd, which also owns Checkers, and the Marks & Spencer franchise in Jersey, has recently sold MMD Shipping Services in Portsmouth to Portsmouth City Council.
According to documents on the Portsmouth City Council website, the acquisition was agreed at a special meeting of the council on 26 February.
The terms of the deal have been kept secret.
