The staggering number ? more than 165,000 a day ? has been reached as a result of an eight per cent increase in text messages in Jersey over the past five years.
‘In 2006 our customers sent just under 61 million text messages,’ said JT marketing head David Vieira. ‘That’s 167,000 a day or the equivalent of 685 per person per year based on a population of 89,000.
‘Text messaging is very popular in Jersey, and the number of messages sent has been growing by about eight per cent each year for the last five years.
‘This is in line with the growth in the number of mobiles, and there is now more than one JT mobile service for every man, woman and child in the Island.’
