Muriel Poisson, who lives in St John, has always been very modest about her life-long commitment to fund-raising for a wide range of charities and good causes.

She said that being recognised in this way – by being made a Member of the Order of the British Empire – had been completely unexpected.

‘I do the fund-raising because I love it and all of the people involved,’ she said.

The former chief executive of the old Policy and Resources Committee, John Mills, is made a CBE in the New Year’s Honours for his work as a UK civil servant before and after his time with the States. Married to ex-Deputy Imogen Nicholls, Mr Mills remains a Jersey resident.

Mrs Poisson has devoted a great deal of her fund-raising activities to supporting the Battle of Flowers.

For 27 years, she played a major role in the exhibit created by Mary Bidan and friends and this year she supported the Ice Age float with the giant woolly mammoth by Rob, Adrian and friends.
