After winning his Royal Court case against Mr Power, former States election candidate Harry Royston Cole, who said that he had been fighting for justice for more than five years, described the award as ‘derisory’ and said that he would appeal to a higher court.

Mr Cole had sought substantial damages but was unable to provide evidence of loss of potential earnings. In the judgment, the court examined all aspects of his claims but found that the only grounds on which he could be awarded damages was for hurt feelings.

After examining damages awards in similar cases, including those brought against newspapers and magazines by model Naomi Campbell and Hollywood couple Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones, Royal Court Commissioner Julian Clyde-Smith said: ‘We award the plaintiff £750 damages for hurt feelings.’
