It is thought that a clue pointing to his tomb could have been found while restoration work was being carrying out in the Town Church.
According to the Dean, the Very Rev Bob Key, a major restoration of the church took place in the 1860s when almost everything was moved and changed. Within the church is a memorial slab to Major Peirson, but Mr Key said that because it was not thought to be the original, nobody was quite sure whether it marked the location of his grave.
However, he said that since moving this slab, further clues have been found.
‘As part of the excavations programme, one of the things we plan to do is raise the level of the floor,’ he said.
Mr Key added that if the exact location of his tomb was discovered it would be a significant find for the Island.
