Get rid of that shed!

The department had given the land tenant one month to demolish the shed that a group of teenage friends built over the last year out of wood and tarpualin – and that stay of execution runs out in a week. Kitted out with a TV, sofas and chairs and a stereo, the clubhouse was built after the group of 17- and 18-year-olds grew sick of being moved on by police when they hung around in St John. And they have spent the last year working with the Constable, Graeme Butcher, and the land owner, Bernie Coppell, to ensure that it is safe and that residents are not disturbed. The group have even included a fire exit and fire extinguisher after speaking to the Fire Service. But Environment Minister Freddie Cohen, who lives nearby, says that the structure is a fire hazard and he would not want to be responsible if someone got hurt.
